About Himanshu Agarwal, MD

Dr. Himanshu Agarwal is an Interventional Cardiologist and currently serves as Director of Structural Heart Program at CHI Health Heart and Vascular Institute in Omaha Nebraska.

Dr. Agarwal is a native of India and grew up in New Delhi. He completed his medical schooling from King George's Medical College one of the top three leading medical schools in India. He developed liking and keen interest in cardiology during his clinical rotations as a medical student. It was this desire to pursue best possible training in Cardiology that encouraged him to come to United States in 1995. He subsequently spent next seven years in completing residency and fellowship program and has been here since then.

He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn. He completed a three year Cardiology Fellowship and a year of Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at the prestigious Mount Sinai School of Medicine New York. During his cardiovascular training he was Chief Cardiology Fellow and was also selected from a large pool of applicants to do an extra year of fellowship specializing in the field of Interventional Cardiology. At Mount Sinai he had the opportunity to learn and interact with some of the world's most accomplished diagnosticians surgeons scientists and educators. He is trained and adept in all interventional and invasive procedures.

After fellowship he spent five years with CHI Health Clinic Heart Institute at their Grand Island and Lincoln practice. Due to his exceptional interventional skills he soon became their highest volume operator. His practice included a large number of patients with complex and challenging interventional problems referred to him by his partners and other doctors. He moved to CHI Health Clinic Heart Institute Omaha in August 2007. He established the septal defect closure program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center / Clarkson Hospital and performed the first percutaneous patent foramen ovale closure there in December of 2007. He subsequently transitioned to Alegent Health along with his other Heart Institute Omaha colleagues.

Dr. Agarwal is Board Certified in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology. He performs many coronary and non-coronary interventions which include stents balloons atherectomy and other diagnostic procedures and therapeutic devices in heart leg or other arteries of the body closure of septal defects in the heart. He is also currently involved in numerous research trials along with his colleagues which offer opportunities for patients to participate in newer treatment protocols and regimens.

Dr. Agarwal is married and has a son and daughter. He enjoys spending time with them. His other interests include travel reading and golf.
